With the feeder and weaner sale being held next Tuesday, the yarding at Emerald on Thursday saw a majority of slaughter cattle on offer, with a market that trended slightly dearer than previous weeks.
Heavy steers over 550kg were too few to quote, while 500-550kg steers made to 268c/kg and average 256c, 400-500kg steers topped at 283c to average 246c, 350-400kg steers made to 286c to average 255c, with steers 280-350kg making to 276c to average 249c, while steers in the weaner weight ranges made to 275c to average 247c.
Heavy heifers over 400kg made to 252c to average 236c, 350-400kg heifers topped at 238c to average 234c, 280-350kg heifers topped at 216c to average 203c, while heifers in the weaner weight ranges made to 222c to average 169c.
Cows over 520kg made to 180c to average 174c, while cows 450-520kg topped at 175c to average 163c. No cows and calves were penned.

Jane Neilson, Shandon Park, Anakie, sold Droughtmaster cross heifers to 236c to weigh 364kg or $859. Colin and Jenny Feddersen, Whitdale, Rubyvale, sold Santa heifers weighing 530kg to make 223c and return $1182.
Mark and Donna Kemp, Yungaba, Capella, sold Brahman cows to 173c to weigh 540kg or $935. The Barlow family, Amaroo, Comet, sold Brangus cows to 176c to weigh 577kg or $1017.
