Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 1020 head at their prime and store sale on March 21.
Cattle consisted of 692 prime and 328 store cattle. The prime cattle were made up of 52 bullocks, 91 heifers, 507 cows and 42 bulls, while the store section yarded 152 steers, 171 heifers and 5 cows and calves.
Cattle comprised of very small lines of bullocks with a good line of fat cows and a few bulls. The yarding was drawn from Croydon, Hughenden, Giru, Coastal and Local areas.
Prime Quotes:
Bullocks were quoted 10c easier, heifers were 4c dearer, cows were 3c easier and bulls were 20c dearer, on last the previous week’s rates. There were four meatworks in attendance bidding on the fat cattle.
A pen of bullocks topped at 265.2c for 4 sold by D&T Stephens, weighed 490kg to return $1300.
A pen of trade heifers were presented by Burdekin Downs, made 248.2c to weigh 483kg and return $1198.
The top pen of cows were sold by Burdekin Downs for 223.2c and weighed 571kg to return $1274.
Bulls sold by MG&HJ Bredden topped at 269.2c and weighed 800kg to return $2,153.

Store cattle were of limited supply with lack luster buyer support.
A pen of 14 steers from S&H Ellems made 318.2c and weighed 154kg returning an average of $490.
A good pen of four heifers from Glenell Grazing made 239.2c, to weigh 240kg to return $574.
Five cows and calves sold by Double U Farms returned $820/unit.
