On March 11 the Queen's Baton Relay made its way to Hughenden on its seventy-sixth day in Australia en route to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
Local legends from the Flinders Shire helped carry the Queen's message as it makes its way to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Mayor Jane McNamara was the first batonbearer off the mark, carrying the baton from the Swimming Pool before handing over to Mrs Joyce Price. Bronwyn McNamara, Keith Dighton, Rosslyn Jones, Dr Cathy Reto, Brenda Townley, Paulie McIntosh and Jamie Creagh all took part in carrying the baton through the streets of Hughenden before Mrs Colleen Murdoch delivered the baton to the Hughenden Showgrounds were a community celebration was held.
Community members were kept on their toes for the afternoon with fun and games by Captain Active and our local personal trainers Jenny Murdoch, Pete Robins and Niki Flute (NRG Fitness).
Smiles were all around as the community came together to celebrate the special occasion.
