The wet season arrived with a bang in the Gulf country this week and the Burketown pub has posted a video of what it has done to the local country.
Posting the video on its Facebook page on Thursday the pub said “It's starting to get a little wet under foot around Burketown. Sure is great to see the greenery back.”
That greenery is the result of 326mm of falls locally this month – mostly in the last three days.
After Burketown Airport received just 108mm for the month through to January 22, three heavy days of falls have almost trebled the total. On Tuesday they got 63mm, followed by 41.2mm on Wednesday and a whopping 114mm on Thursday.
Several roads are closed including the Savannah Way between Burketown to the Leichhardt River and between Doomadgee and the border.
