A distinctive red steel fence with the skull of a bull set on a post nearby may provide the location that a Newcastle man has gone missing in, in the Charters Towers region.
Police on Tuesday renewed their call for information regarding Jayde Penno-Tompsett, who was last seen in the Charters Towers region between 3am and 11am on December 31 last year.
Extensive enquiries show that Mr Penno-Tompsett may have been sighted down a dirt road with a reddish fence line.
A bull skull was on a post near a set of silver yards, and a house was visible several hundred metres from the road, which ran off a bitumen road.
Police are also seeking the person who may have assisted an acquaintance of the missing person, a young Caucasian man, on the same morning.
The person may have attended on foot or in a NSW registered maroon Nissan Pulsar sedan.
“There’s nothing sinister whatsover,” a police spokesman said at press conference in Charters Towers on Tuesday.
“We know it has happened and that member of the community will know exactly what action they performed to render assistance.
“If you do have information on either of these enquiries, please ring Crime Stoppers.”
The travelling companion was working with police and was said to be at a loss as to where Mr Penno-Tompsett might be.
The missing person is described as Caucasian in appearance, 175cms tall with mousy brown hair. He was last seen wearing a black singlet, navy blue board shorts, and black and red thongs.
While police said at this point in time there was no evidence to suggest anything sinister had happened, he hadn’t been seen and concerns were held for his welfare.
“We need to ascertain first and foremost that he’s safe and well, and secondly, where he is,” the spokesman said.
Members of the public have already supplied information that have formed the basis of a comprehensive enquiry, and the area around Towers Hill has been searched extensively.
Police said while the missing person had a propensity to be away from time to time, the amount of time he has been missing is out of the ordinary.
They said it was possible he may have hitchhiked from the Charters Towers area and returned to New South Wales, and urged truckies and others who may have picked the person up in the region to report that to police.
A message for people with larger properties to check unused dwellings was also reiterated.
