Details on the 2018 Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival are coming to light, with the headline act announced last week.
Townsville based musical group, King Social, will partake in next years festival and is expected to bring a unique flavour to the outback event.
The band, which has topped the Triple J Unearthed Charts a total of five times, has appeared in the top 10 iTunes Australian Charts twice, and debuted at number 30 on the ARIA charts earlier this year, will be performing in the coveted headlining spot on the Saturday night in front of the weekend’s biggest crowds.
King Social is an eclectic five-piece comprising an Irish-Aboriginal hip-hop artist, an ocker cowboy on lead vocals, a Greek hippy on the drums, a Fijian bassist and a metal-loving lead guitarist.
The band has supported acts such as Sticky Fingers, 360, The Rubens, Dan Sultan and more.
King Social has been to the Festival before as a support act in 2014, but is now returning to the Julia Creek stages in the top spot.
Lead singer Angus Milne, said the band was excited to perform for the Dirt n Dust crowds.
“We love playing shows in the outback, because no one parties like the country folk,” Mr Milne said.
“I’m from Longreach myself, so it’s always like going home; and the other boys love it because it’s like a whole different world for them.
“We played at the Dirt n Dust Festival a few years back and we just remember it being a wild weekend – between the dancing, the races and the bull rides we didn’t stop.”
Dirt n Dust committee president, Stephen Malone, said The Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival was proud to have a local Queensland band as their headliner this year.
“King Social is such an incredible Queensland talent,” Mr Malone said.
“They represent everything that the Dirt n Dust is all about: true Aussie larrikinism and the laidback way of life out here in the country.”
“We’re incredibly proud to support genuine home-grown talent on our stages here at Dirt n Dust.”
King Social has promised to keep the crowds dancing the night away.
“The crowds can expect a bit of everything,” Mr Milne said.
“We’ve got some hip-hop, some soul, some reggae, and we’ll definitely dust off some of the country stuff so people can have a boot-scoot.
“It’s just going to be a good time. We’re excited.”
