Dirt N Dust regular Fred Schneider is among the 33 people chosen to carry the Queen’s Baton when the Commonwealth Games relay hits his home town of Charters Towers on
The 82-year-old is a popular fixture in the Richmond triathlon and more often than not the race’s oldest competitor, likely to be back again in 2018.
Friends nominated him for the relay and he was modest about his abilities when he found out he would be taking part.
“There are other athletes around here who are good,” he told local media.
“I just like to keep up a level of fitness.”
Age is no barrier to Fred’s achievements.
As well as Dirt N Dust, Fred has completed the Townsville to Cairns bike ride and he has also done a half marathon.
The Queen’s Baton will travel to 83 communities over 33 days in the lead up to the games.
It arrives in the Towers on Monday, March 12.
