Mareeba combined agents penned a total of 616 head for this week’s prime and store sale on November 28 - an increase of 56 head on last week.
There were several pens of good well finished local trade steers and heifers. Values for steers were easier on the previous week back by 9c while heifers gained 4c on previous top of 239c. Local trade cows held firm to 2c cheaper.
Slaughter ox gained 27c on last week’s best of 231c while cows lost 19c on previous week’s 239c and bulls gained 10c/kg.
Prime Quotes: Local trade steers made 258c, local trade heifers topped 243c, local trade cows sold to 220c while ox suitable for slaughter topped 258c, slaughter cows made 220c and slaughter bulls sold to 230c.
Store quotes: Store steers sold to 331c, store heifers made 302c, cows and calves topped $1440 per unit, while younger store bulls sold to 312c.
The market was attended by one major processor, three local processors, and a few local fatteners and traders who provided good competition on the better quality stores and one southern restocker who added some much needed competition on some of the lesser quality store steers, heifers and bulls.
