The Beef Country Brahman Bull Sale was held in Nebo on Friday with 76 bulls selling for a 100 per cent clearance rate, gross of $505,500 and an average of $6651.
The sale topped at $20,000 for Hazleton Fitzroy 4419, purchased by Brett Kinnon, Alinya, Clermont.
Fitzroy weighed 926kg with a scrotal circumference of 37cm and boasted an impressive EMA of 145sq cm.
The second top price bull was also offered by the Kirk family, with Hazleton Max H537 selling for $19,000 to Day Grazing, Marylands, St Lawrence.
Max, an 894kg bull with a scrotal circumference of 38cm, recorded an EMA of 138sq cm and even fat scans with a P8 depth of 14 and rib of 13.
Hazleton’s Brett Kirk said it came as no surprise when Fitzroy topped their line, and also the sale. “We liked him and thought that he was probably one of the better bulls in the yarding in our draft,” he said. “For a polled bull he’s a heavily muscled bull, a very smooth bodied bull, long, clean in the sheath, good temperament, and he ticked a lot of the boxes.”
Brett Kinnon, Bungoona Brahmans, Clermont, said it was Fitzroy’s overall balance which sold him on the grey bull.
“He’s got good feet and legs, and polley was probably the first thing that drew us to him to look anyway, but also his temperament and skin type,” Mr Kinnon said.
Fiztroy will be used in an AI program with 800 females.
The volume buyer was the New family, Many Waters, Nebo, who went home with eight bulls grossing $43,500 and averaging $5437.
Also spending big were Bruce and Sue Mikkelsen, Caeta, via Gin Gin, who purchased the third top price bull, Hazleton Touchdown B577, for $15,000.
Going home with six bulls in tow was Teitzel Grazing, Bowen.
Grossing $24,500, their bulls averaged $4083 with a top of $6000.
Also going home with six bulls was Lake Elphinstone, Nebo. Lake Elphinstone’s bulls grossed $44,500 for an average of $8900 and a top of $11,000.
The Singleton family, Turon Downs, Middlemount took home five bulls.
The Singleton’s purchases grossed $22,500 for an average of $4500 and a top of $5500.
Three bulls sold for $11,000 at the sale, with Hazleton Kingston 54 selling to the Williams family, Riverside Grazing, Hazelton Wrinkles 4351 selling to Lake Elphinstone, and Crinum Mystery selling to Lake Elphinstone.
The multi-vendor sale saw four vendors attend, with Hazelton Brahmans, Crinum Brahmans, Blue Water Hills Brahmans, and El Ja Brahmans.
