WINDORAH property Coniston has sold immediately after auction to a South Australian businessman.
The sale came after the property was passed in on a bid from the floor of $3.6 million. The undisclosed sale price is understood to be considerably higher. Nine parties registered to bid at the auction in Quilpie.
Located at the start of the Cooper country, 41km east of Windorah, the 28,500 hectare (70,424 acre) property has additional 111ha of unfenced stock route.
Coniston is described as being channel country, with open plains interspersed with soft sand hills. About two thirds of the property has black soils with the balance being red sand hill country. Grasses include, Mitchell, buffel, Flinders, blue bush and spinifex.
Coniston is divided into nine main paddocks and three holding paddocks with a lane leading to the cattle yards.
Water is supplied from Cooper Creek, the Barcoo River, waterholes and pipelines feeding nine tanks, and 12 troughs. A bore supplies three tanks and five troughs.
Improvements include a four bedroom home built in 1982, workshop, shearing shed, quarters, cattle and sheep yards.
