Mareeba Combined Agents penned a total of 506 head of cattle at this week’s Prime and Store Cattle Sale, a decrease on last week’s sale. One export processor attended, as well as local processors. The yarding was dominated by cows and bulls suitable for the slaughter market.
Butchers cattle were limited this week although prices lifted 5c for steers and 20c for heifers. Prices for bullocks suitable for slaughter were in short supply and lost 10c while heavy cows gained 10c on last week’s quotes.
Bulls suitable for slaughter lost 60c with weak competition. Young store bulls also lost 10c and local trade cows were 7c dearer. Store steers were unchanged on last week while store heifers lost 5c. Cows and calves made $1040.
