Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 1910 cattle on September 27, consisting of 1029 prime cattle and 881 store cattle.
The prime cattle consisted of 190 bullocks, 26 heifers, 687 cows and 126 bulls, while the store cattle yarded consisted of 541 steers, 336 heifers and 4x4 cows and calves.
Prime cattle comprised of mixed quality lines with few lines of fresh covered cattle dominated mostly by forward store cows.
The yarding was drawn from Chillagoe, Burketown, Einasleigh, Collinsville, Torrens Creek, local and coastal areas.
Heavy bullocks were quoted 8-10c dearer, bullocks under 500kg were 15-20c cheaper, heifers were unchanged and cows were 5-8c dearer on last week’s rates.
Prime quotes saw bullocks top at 253c/kg for Brahman cross sold on account of EJT & KL Camp that weighed 562kg to return $1425 per head.
Best priced trade heifers were presented on behalf of Dylingo Pastoral Co which made 226c/kg to weigh 437kg and return $989 per head.
The top pen of cows were sold by Darrin Fairfull, Giru, for 213c/kg and weighed 570kg to return $1215 per head.
Bulls sold on account of SR & DJ Moncrieff, topped at 253c/kg and weighed 690kg to return $1747 per head.
The store cattle consisted of some quality lines of high grade Brahman steers and young males with smaller runs of northern cattle making up the feeder section of the yarding with a strong buying panel on the better quality cattle.
A pen of Brahman steers on behalf of Alice Brabon made 370c/kg and weighed 194kg and realised $718 per head.
A quality line of 222 steers and males on account of Colls Earthmoving, Glenroc Station, Gumlu, averaged 313c/kg and weighed 195kg to return $595 per head.
A good pen of Brahman heifers sold by TVE & MR Hoffman made 274c/kg, weighed 166kg and returned a good average of $457 per head.
A pen of Brahman heifers on account of EJT & KL Camp, averaged 234c/kg and weighed 335kg and returned $785 per head.
Cows and calves were insufficient to quote.
The next prime and store sale will be held on Wednesday October 4.
