THE Marellan Shorthorn sale in Emerald was a very well-attended event on Tuesday, with plenty of people packing in for the sale which averaged $9538.
With a clearance rate of 97 per cent and a gross of $372,000 for 39 bulls, stud principal Lincoln Job said it was definitely the family’s best sale.
Top priced bull was lot seven, Marellan Stoic, who at 27 months of age tipped the scales at 860kg, with an EMA of 130cm sq, and a scrotal circumference of 39cm.
Stoic was purchased by Kim Williams, Mt Mica, Clermont.
The second top priced bull of the day was Marellan Simpson Desert, a polled bull who sold for $21,000.
It was the Appleton Cattle Company, Islay Plains, Alpha, who purchased Simpson Desert, a 26 month old bull weighing 808kg with an EMA of 120cm sq.
The Islay Plains buyers were the volume buyers of the sale, and went home with five bulls, for an impressive gross of $56,000 for an average of $11,200.
Also going home with a few bulls were the Heelan family, Pasha, Clermont, who purchased three bulls.
They grossed $18,500 for an average of $6166.
Mr Williams said he purchased Stoic to go in with newly-purchased Shorthorn heifers to hopefully breed bulls for their own use.
The family operation runs over two adjoining properties with a combined 22,257 hectares and a Brahman-based herd of 2700 breeders.
He said the family put Charolais and Shorthorn bulls over the Brahman breeders.
Mr Job said the sale was “exceptional”.
“We were very humbled by the support from the commercial buyers, and it (the sale) was up on last year and the season was down on last year,” he said.
