The first 8000 solar panels have been installed at a solar farm in North Queensland.
The development of the 20MW Hughenden Solar Farm commenced more than 12 months ago but is starting to take place with the installation of its first solar panels.
With just under 60,000 panels to complete the farm, construction contractor Beon has a long way to go prior to construction completion in October.
Beon project director, Richard Reynolds, said commissioning works with AEMO and Ergon would follow.
“The power generated will be fed into the Ergon network and will help supply the region. Simply Energy have the rights to the energy generated.
“Depending on formula and assumptions, the site will supply power to approximately 8000 to 10,000 average homes.”
Flinders Shire Council Mayor, Jane McNamara, said it was great to see new industry bodies developing opportunities in Hughenden.
“I am very happy to see the solar farm starting to take fruition. It is a great project that will benefit our region greatly,” she said.
“Generating job opportunities during both the construction and operating phases.”
