It took them two days to get there but in the end the long drive from the Atherton Tablelands to Roma proved worthwhile for Telpara Hills Brangus Stud principals, the Pearce family, who sold the top price bull at Friday’s Roma Brangus Sale.
A total of 107 bulls sold under the hammer at the Australian Brangus Association Sponsored sale, for a clearance of 75 per cent and a sale average of $7687.
In a reflection of the seasonal conditions, the figures were down on the 2016 sale when 102 bulls sold for an average price of $8147 and a clearance of 94pc.
There was 100pc clearance in the females on Friday, with 15 lots averaging $3983 and topping $6000.
The sale attracted 115 registered bidders and featured seedstock from 29 vendors hailing from North Queensland to Victoria.
Top price bull, Telpara Hills King Pin 392L3 (P) (AI) (ET) sold to Hardy Woodard, Knackbrake, Eidsvold, for $26,000.
Weighing in at 965kg, King Pin was sired by MC Real Deal and is related to the $40,000 top price bull sold at the 2016 Roma Sale.
King Pin boasted a scrotal measurement of 41cm and an EMA of 129sq.cm.
Mr Woodard intends to use the bull in his Taloumbi Brangus stud herd and over his herd of Ultrablack cows.
His only other purchase at the sale was Glenoyra Jacko (P) for $7000, sold on account of Mark and Melinda Beckman, Glenoyra Brangus, Oakey.
Selling as the final vendors, the Telpara Hills draft met exceptional demand with the ten bulls offered averaging $14, 750.
Honours for the second top price bull went to the Bell family, Inavale Brangus, Boonah, who sold Inavale 795 (P) to fellow sale vendors Ian and Ann Galloway, Galloway Cattle Co for $18,000.
Sired by Valley View 640, the two-year-old bull weighed in at 810kg and featured an EMA of 134sq.cm and a scrotal measurement of 39cm.
The Inavale Brangus draft met solid demand throughout, with their eight bulls averaging $12,062.
The third top price of $16,000 was achieved five times throughout the sale including with the 906kg Inavale 723 (P) who sold to WR and RE Bulmer.
Meanwhile BA and SJ Ryan purchased Elara EO 732 (P) for $16,000 from the Bauer family, Elara Brangus, Laidley. Elara sold eight bulls for an average of $6500.
Jeff Frank, Punchagin Brangus, Monto, sold Punchagin Lancelot (P) to Glenrosa Brangus for $16,000. The bull boasted one of the largest scrotal measurements in the draft at 45cm.
Also paying the third top price of $16,000 was Kuraby Brangus, Goomeri, for the 950kg Telpara Hills Freightliner 468L5 (P) (AI) (ET).
Close behind at $15,500 was the heaviest bull in the draft, the aptly named 1030kg Telpara Hills Wide Load 541L12. The 30-month-old bull sold to Myalla Cattle Co, St George.
Also enjoying a strong sale was the Bonox draft from Taroom’s Woodard family.
Four of the five Bonox bulls offered were purchased by repeat Bonox buyer Cam Flower, CA Flower and Co, Garrabarra, Roma for an average of $11,500.
Bonox 1002 was purchased by the Forrest, Bellona, Augathellafor $15,000. The milk tooth bull weighed in at 762kg and had a scrotal measurement of 40cm.
The volume buyers of the sale was Kingaroy’s Campbell family, who purchased five for an average of $6100 while the Edwards family, Quilpie, purchased five for an average of $4900.
