Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 1463 head on August 30, consisting of 510 prime cattle and 953 store cattle.
Prime cattle consisted of 281 bullocks, 23 heifers, 190 cows and 16 bulls, while the store cattle saw 600 steers, 197 males, 151 heifers and five cows and calves.
Cattle comprised of some good lines of prime cattle that were overall a better yarding than last week’s sale that sold to a more buoyant market.
The yarding was drawn from Normanton, Georgetown, Forsayth, Coen, Innisfail, Ingham, Clare, Belyando, Hughenden, Richmond, Julia Creek and local areas.
Heavy bullocks were quoted 12-18c dearer, lighter bullocks/heavy feeder steers 6-8c dearer, heifers were 5-10c dearer and cows 12-15c dearer, on last week’s rates.
Prime quotes saw bullocks top at 258c/kg for 20 ox sold on account of GW Carrick, Maitland Station, Einasleigh, weighing 561kg to return $1,447 per head.
A pen of 20 heavy brahman cross bullocks sold on behalf of LT and CP Curley, Sutherland Holding, Georgetown, made 257c/kg, weighing 584kg and returning $1502 per head.
A pen of nine heavy feeder steers made 266c/kg and weighed 469kg to return $1,248.18 per head on account of Mt Douglas Pastoral Co, Mt Douglas, Belyando.
Best priced trade heifers were presented on account of P. Bradshaw, Cape Cleveland, which made 237c/kg to weigh 418kg and return $991 per head.
The top pen of cows were sold by Mt. Douglas Pastoral Co, Mt. Douglas, Belyando, for 207c/kg and weighed 615kg to return $1,273 per head.
Bulls sold on behalf of Mt. Douglas Pastoral Co, Mt. Douglas, Belyando, topped at 252c/kg and weighed 650kg to return $1639 per head.
The store cattle were of good quality, including some lines of weaner steers and heifers and a large run of export steers in the 200-320kg range that sold to a full gallery of buyers. Steers were fully firm on last week, with heifers 5c/kg dearer, than last week.
A pen of 35 steers on account of WH and DE Alford, Collopy, Mingela, made 352c/kg, and weighed 211kg and realised $742 per head.
A line of 384 steers on behalf of Morr Morr Pastoral Co, Delta Downs, Normanton, sold to 334c/kg to average 317c/kg at 282kg to return $894 per head.
A pen of 27 mickeys sold on account of A.IA. Merepah Station, Coen, sold for 343c/kg and weighed 181kg to realise $620 per head.
A good pen of 16 heifers sold on behalf of Brad Howe, Zig Zag Station, Herveys Range Road, made 283c/kg, weighed 194kg and returned a good average of $548 per head. Other smaller lots of light weight heifers sold up to 294c/kg.
Cows and calves sold on account of Moriah Pastoral Co, Fletcher, Charters Towers returned $750 per unit.
The next prime and store sale at Dalrymple Saleyards is booked for September 6.
