Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will address the Powering North Queensland Summit in Townsville on Thursday (August 31).
“This is a summit for the jobs boom that is happening now in North Queensland’s renewables industry,” said John Grimes Australian Solar Council and Energy Storage Council CEO.
“Premier Palaszczuk will speak about the tremendous job and business opportunities from North Queensland’s renewable energy boom.”
Mr Grimes said many local businsesses were taking advantage of North Queensland’s renewables potential, including teh Ross River solar farm and the Haughton solar farm.
“Attendees at the summit will find out about the latest technologies and job opportunities,” Mr Grimes said.
“Local residents, industry representatives and community groups will come together to hear more about North Queensland’s renewable project pipeline.
“There has been an unprecedented level of investment in renewable energy in North Queensland in the last two years. Queensland has 17 large-scale projects underway that have created 2200 new jobs in regional centres. We are set to see $6.7 billion investment and between 6,400 and 6,700 new jobs every year in Queensland to 2030.
“Opportuntiies in North Queensland’s renewables sector are set to grow exponentially. We are focussed on long-term, secure investment in regional centres, and facilitiating projects that will deliver jobs for this generation and many more to come,” said Mr Grimes.
Queensland Treasurer and acting Energy Minister Curtis Pitt, Mayor of Townsville Cr Jenny Hill, Federal Member for Herbert Cathy O’Toole and Minister Assisting the Premier for North Queensland, Coralee O’Rourke will also speak at the summit.
