Growers have shown strong interest in getting up to speed with Hort Code compliance, with more than 65 growers attending free workshops in Mareeba and Bowen and another 100 already registered for upcoming workshops.
The new Horticulture Code of Conduct, introduced on April 1 this year, has been designed to protect growers’ interests and to reflect the flexibilities which need to operate in the market place.
The ACCC has emphasised the need for growers and traders to ensure they are compliant with the revised Horticulture Code or run the risk of penalties and fines.
To inform growers of their rights and obligation under the new code, Growcom, along with the regional horticulture bodies, is running free Hort Code workshops around Queensland.
These workshops are sponsored by the HiveXchange and supported by VegNet.
At each workshop, a representative from the ACCC gives an overview of the Code and takes questions from growers.
Our Chief Advocate Rachel Mackenzie presents a horticulture produce agreement template interactive session on what to look out for, troubleshooting and common scenarios.
HiveXChange also delivers a presentation at each workshop about managing compliance via an online consignment tool.
There is still time and space for growers to register for the remaining workshops, which will be held at Gayndah on August 22, Bundaberg on August 23, Gatton on August 24, Stanthorpe on August 31 and the Sunshine Coast on September 5.
Growers will walk out of these workshops with a better understanding of their rights and obligations, along with a template Horticulture Produce Agreement and some ideas about how to streamline compliance and what to do if things go wrong.
