Towers market eases

Prime cattle consisted of 80 bullocks, 40 heifers, 323 cows and 68 bulls, while store cattle consisted of 431 steers, 406 heifers, 12 cows and 12 calves.

Cattle comprised of a few lines of finished cattle supported by big lines of Gulf cattle and local stores. 

The yarding was drawn from Burketown, Normanton, Greenvale, Mt Garnet, local and coastal areas.

The market eased for slaughter cattle and held for stores. Bullocks were quoted as 2-4c easier, heifers were unchanged and cows were 8-15c easier on last week’s rates. bulls were 10-20c cheaper.

Prime quotes saw bullocks top at 250c/kg with a pen of note selling for 246c/kg for a pen of 10 Brahman cross steers sold on account of Atkinson Developments, Lucky Downs, Greenvale, that weighed 523kg to return $1310 per head.

A pen of trade heifers were presented on account of Lawrie Grazing Trust, Powlathanga, Charters Towers, making 230c/kg to weigh 450kg and return $1035 per head.

The top pen of cows were sold by Lawrie Grazing Trust, Powlathanga, Charters Towers, for 204c/kg and weighed 530kg to return $1083 per head.

Bulls sold on account of Crisp Pastoral topped at 250c/kg and weighed 500kg to return $1251 per head.

Store cattle were made up of good local cattle supported by a line of good cattle ex Cloncurry and plainer steers and bulls from the Gulf. Steers were unchanged and heifers eased 8-10c.

A line of 80 steers on account of Lascells Pastoral Co, Charters Towers, made 351c/kg and weighed 241kg and realised $846 per head.

A good pen of 37 heifers on account of LP Farming and Grazing, Ingham, made 278c/kg, weighed 193kg and returned a good average of $536 per head.

A pen of nine cows and calves sold on account of G Brown, Georgetown returned $1240 per unit.
