The unique qualities of the tropically adapted Bos taurus that Senepol cattle offer were to the fore in the RNA centre ring when Dulacca’s Claire York cast her eyes over the 11-head Senepol showing.
Assessing the grand champion exhibit entries, she gave the nod to 5 Star Stair Master, an 18-month-old bull that had been bred from an AI program.
Claire described him as having “a remarkable shape, reminiscent of the best European breeds”.
Jambin-based owner, Geoff Maynard said Stair Master’s mother had proven success at the Ekka, having been a breed junior champion female.
On the other side of the ribbon presentation, Kingsthorpe’s Gary Porter was very pleased with his return to the ring, taking out the champion cow award with Silverleigh Joleen.
“Her mother was closely related to the female that was the junior champion heifer at Beef 2012, and her genetics gave rise to the top priced bull at the Senepol tropical invitation sale at Gracemere a month ago, so the line is breeding well,” Gary said.
“The three heifers that did well for me were all out of 5 Star Solomon, and are all showing plenty of growth.”
Wilsonton Agricultural Field Studies prepared them.
