Tremere Pastoral’s Swin and Kathy Hudson will hold their 11th annual African Genetic Sale at the Moura Saleyards on Friday, September 8 from 11am.
The Hudson’s will offer 43 of their best Performance Tested Belmont and Bonsmara bulls during the sale.
Under the management of Swin the present day Tremere herd reflects the 40 years of selection based on Estimated Breeding Values ( EBV’s) and visual appraisal.
“We think it’s vitally important to use measured performance data for the advancement of herd genetics; it’s what directs the management practices we employ at Tremere,” Swin said.
He said selection of herd animals using EBV's, visual appraisal and functional soundness ensures the production of consistently high quality, docile cattle suitable for grass or grain finishing meat markets.
“The guiding philosophy we use when drafting bulls for the sale is that we won’t sell bulls we wouldn’t use ourselves.
“The initial attraction for buyers when it comes to the breed is their high fertility rate, but they soon discover their excellent carcass potential and growth rates; what’s inside them is worth having.”
He said close to 80 per cent of the sale draft are either Polled or Scurred, and that the catalogue is full of bulls with a good balance of traits.
“We are all about temperament for our bulls and females, I find temperamental animals are too expensive for our industry.”
Established in 1958 by stud principals Mort and Barbara Hudson, Tremere is situated in the Callide Dawson Valley, near Moura.
The Tremere Belmont Herd commenced in 1974 when the first Belmont females were released to the Australian Beef Industry by the CSIRO.
The sale will be conducted by Elders Stud Stock using the Helmsman auction system.
“We’ve returned to the Helmsman style auction as we believe it provides prospective buyers with a better chance of taking home the bulls they want. If a bidders first choice bull exceeds the price they’re willing to pay, they can still bid on their backup options since the entire draft is being sold simultaneously.”
He said people who’re unable to attend the sale but are wanting to purchase bulls can inspect the draft two to six days before the sale or by appointment if an earlier inspection is required, and can provide bidding instructions to their preferred sale agent who’ll be need to be on-site for the sale.
The sale catalogue which can be sorted by the credentials that are most important to you is available now on the Tremere Pastoral website. For further enquiries please phone Swin Hudson on 0428 973 020.
