Almost $2.5 million and around 17 jobs will flow soon in North West Queensland thanks to Palaszczuk Government funds for critical infrastructure projects from a concrete plant to an all-weather airport runway.
State Development Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said the Palasczuk Government was partnering with Cloncurry, McKinlay, Mount Isa and Mornington councils on projects in Cloncurry, Julia Creek, Mount Isa and Mornington Island.
“Infrastructure projects spark jobs growth and flow-on business opportunities, keeping regional Queensland’s local economies ticking over and its communities strong,” he said.
“Reinvesting royalties in this latest round of our $375 million Building our Regions program will generate almost 440 jobs across 65 projects from Eromanga to Horn Island.”
Statewide, the Building our Regions has already allocated $156.7 million to 109 critical infrastructure projects across the state, generating more than 1300 jobs and attracting more than $277 million investment from councils and other organisations.
“North West Queensland towns from Boulia to Karumba have benefited from almost $14.5 million allocated already, with 12 of these projects complete or underway, and three will start by next March,” Dr Lynham said.
“These include community and recreational facilities, water, sewerage and drainage upgrades, an optic fibre link and economic development infrastructure.”
