Mareeba combined agents penned a total of 760 head at this week’s prime and store cattle sale held on June 20.
A full panel of buyers including one major export processor, three local processors, one central and two southern Queensland restockers and a small gallery of local buyers were present and active.
Butchers steers were hard to find. Butchers heifers were also scarce. Wholesale cows improved in value and realised a gain of 7c/kg on the previous week.
Export ox showed a substantial rise up 23c on last week. Export cows improved by 15c/kg on the previous week.
Export bulls did improve by 6c/kg on the best of last week and good quality store steers remained firm in value and sold consistently from 270–310c/kg.
Good quality store heifers sold well between 240–250c while lesser quality and plain types did not generate a lot of competition. Good quality store males are still attracting the attention of buyers looking to promote these types onto live export feeder market.
The next Mareeba special store sale will be held on Friday, July 14 from 10am.
