Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 2003 head at their June 21 prime and store cattle sale.
The yarding consisted of 872 prime cattle and 1131 store cattle.
Prime Cattle comprised of good lines of finished bullocks and steers with few lines of finished cows dominated mostly by forward store condition cows. Competition was strong across the board with all meatworks, feedlotters, exporters and butchers in attendance. The yarding was drawn from Normanton, Karumba, Croydon, Georgetown, Hughenden, local and coastal areas.
Prime Quotes:
Bullocks were quoted 5-10c dearer, heifers were 5-10c dearer and cows were unchanged, on last week’s rates.
Bullocks topped at 292c/kg for a pen of 20 bullocks sold on by Mt Douglas that weighed 554kg to return $1618 per head.
Best priced heifers were presented by RT&TL Tapiolas, Homehill, which made 275c to weigh 432kg and return $1190.
The top pen of cows were sold by PM &AL Finger, Mutation for 229c and weighed 613kg to return $1405.
Bulls sold by Glenell Grazing, topped at 267c and weighed 730kg to return $1950.
Store Quotes:
Store cattle consisted of some good lines of steers and heifers, with competition very strong from restockers and feedlotters.
A pen of 14 Brahman steers from Nicolaides Pastoral, Glen Kathleen at 378c and weighed 261kg to realise $981.
A good pen of 10 Brahman heifers from KEDA Anning, Reedy Springs made 318c, weighed 250kg and returned an average of $795.
Cows and calves sold by PM&AL Finger, Mayden Park, returned $1510 per unit.
