Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 1656 cattle on June 14, consisting of 1097 prime cattle and 559 store cattle.
Prime cattle consisted of 173 bullocks, 41 heifers, 836 cows and 47 bulls while store cattle yarded consisted of 289 steers, 251 heifers and 19 cows and calves.
Cattle comprised of some large lines of well finished prime cattle from the northern regions along with smaller local lines.
A small percentage of the yard showed the effects of some drier conditions.
The yarding was drawn from Richmond, Hughenden, Burketown, Georgetown, Chillagoe, Ingham, Belyando, local and coastal areas.
Bullocks were quoted unchanged, heifers were 2-5c dearer and Cows were firm on last week’s rates.
Prime quotes saw bullocks top at 279c/kg for Brahman Bullocks sold on account of C & B Kuhl, Richmond that weighed 675kg to return $1884 per head.
Steers topped the sale at 291c/kg for a pen of trade feeder steers on account of Bluff Holdings, Nonda West, Julia Creek weighing 486kg and return $1416 per head.
Best priced heifers were presented on behalf of Braceborough Pastoral Co, Braceborough, Charters Towers, which made 270c/kg to weigh 363kg and return $981 per head.
The top pen of cows were sold by Arthur Shepherd Pastoral Co, Milray, Pentland, for 237c/kg and weighed 520kg to return $1233 per head.
Bulls sold on account of EJT & KL Camp, Floraville, Burketown, topped at 264c/kg and weighed 570kg to return $1505 per head.
Store cattle consisted of one major line of steers with the balance of the yarding mainly smaller lots including some mixed quality cattle.
All cattle sold to a solid market with buyers competing strongly for the cattle on offer.
Steers topped the sale on behald of Kate Andison, Braceborough, Charters Towers, made 404c/kg, weighed 285kg and realised $1151 per head.
A line of 84 No.6 Brahman cross steers sold on account of CP & NA Ferguson, Cardigan, Charters Towers, topped at 380c/kg to average 365c/kg, average weight 290kg and realised $1056 per head
A good pen of 10 Brahman cross heifers on behalf of B & L Corbett, Hyde Park, Charters Towers, made 328c/kg, weighed 140kg and returned a good average of $459 per head.
Cows and calves sold on account of RI & DA McCullough, Bruslee, Charters Towers, returned $1450 per unit.
