A number of political figures, including federal Regional Communications and Regional Development Minister, Fiona Nash, and Senator Pauline Hanson, will be in the audience when over 250 delegates and guests debate rural education issues at St George this week.
Queensland Governor, Paul de Jersey, will be opening the 46th Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association conference on Thursday morning, before issues such as the importance of fixed landlines, the need for reliable internet, a request for a permanent drought allowance, and the likely loss of the Volunteers for Isolated Students Education program, are debated on the conference floor.
Both of the region’s MPs, the Member for Maranoa, David Littleproud, and the Member for Warrego, Ann Leahy, will be attending, along with Queensland’s opposition spokesman on education, Tracy Davis, and the Member for Broadwater, Verity Barton.
Keeping all motivated will be a line-up of guest speakers that includes Jill Rigney from the Right Mind International, Rita McInnes, a clinical psychologist with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and Emily Martin, a local St George author who will discuss her life since a horrific accident.
