The Richmond Field Days and Races has built a strong reputation over the years, with positive word of mouth from one exhibitor to another ensuring that it continues to grow in stature each year.
Committee president Marty Rogers said this years event, again being held at the Richmond Turf Club on Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10, will feature a jam-packed slate of events and demonstrations, which combined with close to 120 exhibits offering a broad range of products and services will ensure there will be something or someone on-site to pique the interest of all visitors.
“We’ll have several new businesses from Townsville and Charters Towers exhibiting this year, along with a number of exhibits from Hughenden, Tambo, Barcaldine, Ilfracombe area which will be of special interest to ladies attending the event,” Mr Rogers said.
“Button Boutique, Playing with Glass, Ilfracombe Garden Nursery, Gumnut Designz from Julia Creek, Simply Little, Little Pearlers, Towers Gas and Camping, World of Winners, Bump to Bub are just a few of the sites.”
“The gents can check out the goods long-time exhibitors such as Honeycombes, Rising Sun Honda, Hughenden Tyre Centre, Elders, Coleman Stock Feeds and many others are offering.”
On Friday the gates to the field day will open at 9am. Gardening guru Tom Wyatt will be on the grounds and will be hosting Q and A sessions over both days discussing all things plants, so bring along your plant specimen to share and find answers.
The Richmond State School student council will be holding a Guess the Weight competition for a mystery animal that will be on-site, with funds raised from the competition to go back into the school.
The Rabobank Offsider Forum will be the focus of attention from 10am with Charters Towers beef producer Emma Robinson coming to talk about the myriad ways local producers can value add into the beef supply chain. Richmond’s Nikko Lord, Sutherland Station, will then detail his participation in Rabobank’s Global Farmers Master Class, and what he got out of the experience.
From 11.30am the Rylands Barbeque Obsession Cook-off will see teams go head-to-head with 40 minutes on the clock to produce an exquisite meal for the judges, all in aid of local organisations and clubs.
Stud bull selling will make its long awaited return to the field days site with the Combine Agents Bull Sale starting at 1pm with 53 bulls being offered by eight vendors encompassing five breeds.
In the afternoon get yourself trackside for the Hughenden Motorcycles and Metalcorp Steel Lawn Mower Derby which will return after proving to be a big hit with visitors in 2016.
The Stockplace Cocktail Party will take place at the Richmond Civic Centre from 6pm until midnight and provides a great opportunity to catch up with mates over drinks and top tucker, while enjoying the live music. The night will also see the winners of the Wellard Live Export feeder Steer Competition announced. Visit the Richmond Saleyards during the field days to inspect the pens in the competition.
Gates will reopen on Saturday morning from 9am, providing visitors with a chance to further explore the various exhibits on display and possibly pick-up a product or two along the way.
Attention will again move trackside from 1pm for the Honeycombes Sales and Services Race Day and the Emanate Legal Fashion of the Field competition, which will be followed by the popular Gough Plastics and Towers Power Equipment Ringers Challenge, which will pit mate against mate and station against station.
