The Australian Rodeo Queen Quest in conjunction with the National Rodeo Council of Australia held it’s 7th annual Australian Rodeo Queen Clinic at the picturesque Wangrah Wilderness Lodge located in Tenterfield NSW.
Entrants travelled from as far as Western Australia, North Queensland and Southern New South Wales including current Rodeo Queen of Australia Miss Bessie Smits to attend the event.
The Clinic offers women who are interested in becoming involved in rodeo, the opportunity to learn about the sport. The weekend included a jam packed program with horsemanship, grand entry techniques, roping demonstrations, dress codes, deportment, public speaking and also covered the duties of becoming a Rodeo Queen.
Five guest speakers were in attendance including two past and present Rodeo Queens and despite the formal aspects of learning; the girls enjoyed a relaxed first night in the lodge with dinner in front of an open fire to wind down after their first day of instruction.
The Australian Rodeo Queen Quest Inc. competition was formed to inspire women to become involved in the heritage sport of Rodeo by promoting events and giving them the tools to actively engage new spectators into the sport.
Sharon Piggott, founder of the Australian Rodeo Queen Quest said, “The Quest is the longest running Queen Quest in Australia, having held the competition over the past 25 consecutive years, since1992.”
The non-profit organisation was extremely pleased with the support for the weekend and was particularly thrilled to have guests travel all the way from WA including past Rodeo Queen of Australia Jo Kestel and current 2017 Western Australia Rodeo Princess Rachel Oakes and mum Kylie to attend which is a testament to the need for these events.
