Far North Queensland horsewoman Hazel Shannon will don the green and gold in a Trans-Tasman duel at the 2017 Oceania Championships.
In her first national representative duties, Hazel, 24, who originally hails from Mutchilba, southwest of Cairns, will compete as part of a four-person team against a team from New Zealand.
She will be joined by Andrew Cooper and Robert Palm (Victoria), and Stewart Tinney (NSW), at the championships being held in conjunction with the Melbourne International 3 Day Event from June 8 to 12.
“It’s great to be selected and it will be a great team experience,” Hazel said.
She will compete aboard Clifford, with the partnership hoping to continue the good form they enjoyed in 2017, which included winning Australia’s premier event, the Australia International Three Day Event CCI 4* at Adelaide last November.
This earnt Hazel the inaugural Equestrian Australia Eventing Dual Crown for Eventing, while Clifford was also named best performed Off The Track Thoroughbred.
Hazel has her sights set on making the national team for the World Equestrian Games in America next year, followed by the 2020 Olympic Games.
