WHEN Chloe Davey, Lonemark Droughtmasters, Emerald left the cattle ring in the final judging of the led steers competition at the Baralaba Show, she earned some high praise.
Judge Cherie Gooding said Chloe had been the light of her day – with her infectious smile, great attitude, and clear love of the animals she was showing.
Chloe, 12, is in her first year of high school at the Emerald State High School and she said she loved all things agriculture, but especially showing cattle.
She said she was lucky enough to have parents who let her start her own stud under the family name, Lonemark CD Droughtmasters, which she said was “amazing”.
“I love performing them out in the ring and I just love them so much,” she said.
“We go to a lot of bull sales - I guess I’ve just been brought up with them, so I really like them and everything about it.”
With big dreams to run her own stud while also being an air hostess, Chloe said for now she is focused on nailing junior judges and paraders.
She couldn’t pick her favourite between the two, but did say she loved the performance aspect of parading.
While Chloe didn’t have any of her own animals at the Baralaba show she was giving a helping hand to Hamadra Droughtmasters, who walked away with the Supreme Champion Female award with Hamadra Elegance.
Ms Gooding said she couldn’t go past the cow called Elegance who was also the Senior Champion Female.
”I’ve worked with Hamadra a lot, we usually bring our own cattle to the show, but this year we’ve just let it have a miss, so next year we’ll be ready to go to Beef 2018,” Chloe said.

Of their show team, Chloe was proud to say one heifer was from her own stud and it was one she chose herself.
“I like them to have good toplines and underlines, a nice polley head, good dulap, nice pin bones and a feminine walk,” she said.
In her comments on the day, Ms Gooding said Chloe was a “bright light”.
“The young lady down the end I haven’t been able to miss all day with her great smile and attitude,” she said.
“She loves what she’s doing and it really shows in the way she’s leading her cattle.”
Now in high school, Chloe said she definitely had to focus more on her studies now and is also a keen dancer. She said even though she didn’t walk away with any personal win at the show, she was really happy with how she performed.
