The popular Horse of the North Challenge will return to Charters Towers for its 11th year with a large field of competitors events and thousands of guests expected to create a thrilling atmosphere at the Indoor Equestrian Centre in Charters Towers from Thursday, May 25.
Horse of the North committee president John Salmond said nominations for the events are coming in thick and fast.
“We have competitors coming from all over. The Challenge is constantly getting bigger, it’s truly a growing sport,” Mr Salmond said.
A great line-up of events are planned with the dry work for the Landmark Open Challenge, Bolt N Fodder Rookie Challenge and the MAGS Classic Challenge kicking things off on Thursday to be continued with the cattle work on Friday.
Friday night will be capped with the Ralco Competitor and Sponsors Dinner.
The action continues on Saturday with the Toomba and Landmark Open Campdraft, the Gun of the North shoeing competition, Toomba Ridden Horse demonstration, Hansen Saddlery Under Six Sale Incentive Draft and the Toomba Grazing Six and Over Incentive Draft.
At 3.30pm the grand entry for Challenge finalists will take place followed by the dry work and cattle work for the Curley Cattle Transport Under-25 Years Final, MAGS Droughtmasters Classic Challenge Final and Landmark Open Challenge Final. Once the dust settles all finalists will attend the presentations on horseback.
Mr Salmond said the challenge and the Toomba Horse Sale compliment each other well.
“The Challenge provides a great preview for prospective buyers as many of the Challenge horses are up for bidding at the sale.”
