A three-metre long crocodile has been removed from a fish farm in Far North Queensland after it was inadvertently trapped in a fishing net being used by farm staff.
The crocodile was removed from a pond at the barramundi farm located near Mourilyan, about 15km south of Innisfail, on a tidal stretch of the Moresby River.
The crocodile is in exceptionally good condition after spending time on the fish farm.
The animal became entangled in a drag net this morning while workers were harvesting fish from the pond.
Wildlife officers from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection have removed the crocodile from the farm and have taken it to a nearby holding facility.
The crocodile will be offered to a farm or zoo.
Under Queensland’s Crocodile Management Plan, Mourilyan is in Zone E, a monitoring and education zone. In Zone E, the risk of human-crocodile interaction is variable, due to the range of habitats and varying numbers of people found in the zone.
