Excellent bone, exceptional frame and outstanding temperament were all qualities that Bungaribee Jalilah 2275 (P) possessed which caught the attention of the Currant Family, Riverlea, Duaringa.
The heifer from stud masters Jim and Bonnie Besley, Bungaribee Brahmans, Barmoya certainly was a star lot at the recent Rocky All Stars Elite Brahman sale at CQLX Gracemere when she topped the sale at $18,000.
Underbidders to this heifer was the Kinbacher family, Garthowen Brahmans, Biggenden.
Overall the sale achieved an 88.8pc clearance selling 56 from 63 females offered with a gross of $272,500 and $4871 average.
Scott Currant and family have recently been investing in stud Brahman female genetics to produce bulls for their Duaringa properties. The Currant family said that after inspecting Jalilah the afternoon previously they were keen to purchase her as “she carried a lot of style, was a well grown heifer who they believe will mature into a large framed cow”.
The Currants run about 1500 breeders in their operation across a number of properties in the Duaringa district.
Top price grey and second top overall was Avee 766 a poll heifer hitting the $15,000 mark for vendors Bill and Vicki Abel, Avee Brahmans, Wowan selling to Bill and Kay Geddes, Doonside, Jardine.
Avee 766 from the NCC EMpress 1972 (IVF) (D) dam (JDH Mr Elmo Manso - IMP US) and by Lancefield A Cooper 3208 (AI) (ET) (P).
Bill and Vicki Abel were confident they had a standout lot in 766 and had high expectations for her and were very happy with their overall success at the sale.
The Avee stud reached an average for their females of $7250. Becky Wilson and family, Eureka Creek Brahmans, Monto left the sale with a great average of $6833 for their three heifers. Third top price heifer Halgenaes Jane (P) account Peter Tuxworth sold to Reedybrook Pastoral for $10,000.
The depth of quality females on offer in the sale was demonstrated when four heifers all reached the fourth top price of $9000. Scott and Geoff Angel, Glengarry Brahmans’ Glengarry Belle was the first of the heifers selling to $9000 with Belle going to George Tucker, Garuda Brahmans, Gracemere. Glengarry’s other $9000 lot, Miss Hannabal 2642, was purchased by Peter and Sue Hammer, Annavale Brahmans. Bill and Kay Geddes took home two of the fourth top priced females, Avee 769 from Bill and Vick Abel and Eureka Creek Malitha (AI) (H) from Becky Wilson & family.
Volume buyers of the day included Bill and Kay Geddes, Doonside, Jardine securing seven lots for an average of $7571. John and Vikki Hartley, Kinka, Injune took home 12 females to average $2917. The Hartleys purchased the heifers on behalf of their daughter Sophie for her commercial herd in which Sophie has selected 60 heifers out of to use to produce replacements females as a base for their operation.
Sophie uses these stud heifers along with bulls purchased through the Rockhampton Brahman week to ensure that the quality remains in their brahman commercial herd.
The Hartleys fatten bullocks on buffel country in the Injune district with a Brahman female base and some Angus infusion through their sires.
Sophie has purchased at the Rocky All Star sale before due to the quality of the females on offer from exceptional stud masters.
