Numbers mirrored those of last week’s with 2800 cattle penned at Emerald on April 27, maintained by a couple of large consignments from outside the normal supply area.
Quality was improved which resulted in continuing strong competition.
Bullocks over 550kg topped 300c to improve their average slightly to 272c, 500 – 550kg steers reached 325c to average 288c, steers 400 – 500kg sold to 350c and averaged 310c, 350 – 400kg steers made to 349c to average 320c, those in the 280 – 350kg category topped at 369c and averaged 330c, while steers in the weaner weight ranges peaked at 408c for an improved average of 364c.
Heavy cows over 520kg sold to 248c to average 239c, 450 – 520kg cows made to 243c for a 222c average, while 400 – 450kg cows reached 228c to average 220c.
Heavy heifers over 400kg peaked at 333c to average 259c, 350 – 400kg heifers topped 306c for a 303c average, heifers 280 – 350kg sold to 329c to average 300c.
Meanwhile, those in the weaner weight range sold to 362c for a 317c average. No cows and calves were penned.
The Purvis family, Picardy, Dysart sold a large draft of heavy 628kg bullocks to average 287c ($1802).
The Charles family, Lakeview, Gindie had Brangus bullocks 755kg to $2153 and 430kg Charolais steers to 338.2c ($1454).
Mark and Donna Kemp, Yungaba, Capella sold an outstanding draft of 237kg Charbray cross weaners, the steers to 408c ($1083) and the heifer portion to 362c ($937).
John Sullivan, Cowley, Springsure had 320kg Droughtmaster cross steers make 369c ($1182), his 289kg heifers to 329c ($952).
Eli and Michelle Vogel, Charlton Park, Clermont sold 275kg Angus cross steers to 386c ($1064) while Alan and Karen Christian, Narraway, Springsure sold a draft of 320kg Droughtmaster cross steers to a top of 362c ($1195).
Tom Wills, Minerva Creek, Springsure sold Droughtmaster/Brahman cross weaner steers to a top of 381c ($963).
