Northern Gulf Resource Management Group is hosting a Breeder Management Workshop with cattle production specialist Dr Ian Braithwaite at Bellevue Station, Chillagoe, on the April 12-13.
The workshop will cover the principles of pregnancy testing and foetal ageing as well as supplying practical, one-on-one training.
In addition Dr Braithwaite also teaches producers how to use foetal ageing and herd segregation to tighten up inefficient calving patterns and discusses various factors that impact on northern beef businesses such as bull selection, reproductive disease, nutrition and sustainable land management.
High costs are one of the biggest hurdles to profitability and sustainability in northern Australia and this workshop helps land managers to assess various strategies to reduce expenses and lift the production of their herd.
Dr Braithwaite is passionate about the northern beef industry becoming more sustainable, with graziers integrating their herd production systems with financial and land management to make better business-wide decisions.
Registration for the event is essential and can be done by contacting the NGRMG Regional Landcare Facilitator, Melissa Bethel on 0499 059 907 or rlf@northerngulf.com.au.
This workshop is supported by funding from the National Landcare Programme and the Australian Government Department of Agriculture.
