WIDESPREAD rain across parts of Queensland and Northern NSW following tropical cyclone Debbie is building already sky-high confidence for today and tomorrow's Casino sales.
Darren Perkins, George and Fuhrmann, said he was expecting plenty of competition for the 2000 Euro cattle to be sold today as well as the expected 2000 Santa and Bos Indicus cattle to be offered tomorrow.
“It could hardly be better,” Mr Perkins said. “A lot of areas this cattle will head into are getting very good rain. There has been a lots of oats planted in recent weeks and producers will be feeling a lot more confident heading into winter.”
MLA’s eastern young cattle indicator currently starts at 647.5c/kg dressed, up 7c on the previous day’s selling, which included the red hot Dalby sale.
Regular Casino supporter Brodie Budd, Cooaga, Wandoan, said the 40mm of rain that had fallen on his home property overnight was very welcome.
“It was getting very dry at home but we’re been on other country where we’re having a very good season,” Mr Budd said. “We’ve been constantly buying a few cattle thinking the market would get dearer if it rained. It has and the market is certainly getting on the rise.”
The Budds feed about 1000 cattle in their on-property feedlot as well as grass finish cattle.
Mr Perkins said tomorrow’s Santa and Bos Indicus sale would proceed regardless of the rain.
“There’s enough cattle that can be brought in regardless of the conditions,” Mr Perkins said.
“At the stage we’re still expecting more than 2000 head, but even if it gets a lot wetter we would still expect a minimum of a 1500.”
Selling starts at 11am (NSW time) at both Casino sales.
