Cloncurry cements its place as being the transport hub of the North West with existing transport businesses plus its continuing growth in this key industry.
Cloncurry Shire Council Mayor Greg Campbell said, “Cloncurry has always been a transport hub with mining and cattle the largest industries in the area both supporting a strong transport industry."
“The transportation industry is expanding in Cloncurry with the recent announcement of Wagners taking on the contract for MMG Dugald River.”
Sam Rodda MMG Operations Manager said, “MMG is excited about the progress of Construction at Dugald River and looks forward to seeing ore trucks from site to rail head with transport partner, Wagners. This follows on from a successful relationship the two companies have had over the last three years.”
Jack Wagner said, “Our company has great faith in the potential of mining projects around Cloncurry, hence the substantial investment put into the Cloncurry base. “
In 2015/2016 Cloncurry Shire generated $140 million in royalties; one of the highest in the State.
Mayor Greg Campbell said, “In 2015/2016 Cloncurry Saleyards had the second largest throughput in the State and third largest in the Country.”
“Curley’s have been a prominent name in the livestock industry for nearly 40 years and transport 400,000 cattle over 4.4million kilometers per year.”
“These few examples are just some of the transportation success stories in the area along with rail. There are scores of road trains on top of these, operated by large and small businesses in town, carting more livestock, mineral concentrates, mining inputs, freight, machinery and road material, every day.”
“The continued growth of mining and cattle industries will see transportation continue to be significant well into the future in Cloncurry.”
Cloncurry is situated in a unique position on the junction of major transport routes. With easy access to road, rail and air services Cloncurry provides a strategic link between Darwin, the East coast and beyond.
The region is linked to the Northern Territory via the Barkly Highway, to Central Queensland via the Landsborough Highway and to the East coast via the Flinders Highway. The Burke Developmental and Wills Developmental Roads provide access to the north.
