Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 393 cattle at the prime and store sale at Dalrymple Saleyards on March 8.
The yarding consisted of 353 prime cattle and 40 store cattle.
The prime cattle consisted of 239 bullocks, 8 heifers, 96 cows and 10 bulls.
The store cattle consisted of 29 steers, 7 heifers and 4 cows and calves.
Prime cattle comprised of mostly meatworks and butcher type cattle, with one good line of bullocks and the balance being mixed in type and condition.
The yarding was drawn from Greenvale, Belyando, Torrens Creek, coastal and local areas.
In the prime quotes, bullocks were quoted 10c easier, heifers were 5c dearer and cows were 6 - 8c easier, on last week’s rates.
Bullocks topped at 260c/kg for 19 bullocks sold on account of Mt. Douglas Pastoral Co, Clermont weighing 522kg to return $1358 per head.
The best trade heifers were presented on account of Mt Douglas Pastoral Co, Clermont which made 244c/kg weighing 470kg and returned $1147 per head.
The top pen of cows were sold by SW Pemble, Barrington for 216c/kg weighing 504kg to return $1091 per head.
One bull sold on account of LM & RS Brandis, Blue Pocket, Charters Towers topped at 240c/kg weighing 540kg to return $1297 per head.
Store quotes saw mixed quality and sold for reasonable rates considering reduced numbers.
A pen of 14 steers on account of Brian Moody, Square Post made 298c/kg and weighed 287.9kg and returned $859 per head.
Heifers were insufficient to quote.
Four cows and calves sold on account of Gary Jones, Aaronvale Station, returned $1,400 per unit.
