Cowgirl Emma Scott has entered in the 2018 Rodeo Queen of Australia competition, hoping to be the second consecutive Cloncurry entrant to win the competition.
Following in 2017 Rodeo Queen of Australia Bessie Smits’ footsteps, Ms Scott hopes to be a positive role model for the National Rodeo Council of Australia and all associated rodeos.
Living on Glen Isla Station 80 kilometres north of Cloncurry, with her husband John and two children Jayde and Kody, Ms Scott said she loved how rodeo was a family sport that everyone could get involved in.
“There is literally something for everyone,” she said.
“I started competing in rodeo when we moved to Glen Isla three years ago, and I love the sport,” Ms Scott said.
“I entered in this competition as I thought it would be a great opportunity to represent women and families in rodeo. While also getting to represent our small town of Cloncurry nationally and internationally.”
The successful rodeo queen will claim the title of Rodeo Queen of Australia and represent the National Rodeo Council of Australia at affiliated rodeos and represent the nation in the USA and Canada.
Ms Scott will compete against nine other contestants from all over Australia including; Lizi Gildea, Mount Isa; Brooke Buckingham, Mareeba; Ashleigh Geddes, Sarina; Jessica Halstead, Wagga Wagga; Rebekah McMahon, Moree; Jessie Read, Singleton; Shirilee Jackson, Eugowra; Montana Hawkins, Yass; and Elizabeth Astbury, Narawong.
The 22 year old, has been practicing a variety of rodeo knowledge, rodeo rules, past winners, current events, and personality interview questions.
“I have also been improving my riding and practicing pattern horsemanship,” Ms Scott said.
“Next month I will be travelling with Bessie to Tenterfield to attend a Queen Camp and learn all about deportment in preparation for finals.
“The camp is not compulsory but it is a great opportunity provided by the Queen Quest committee.”
Finals will be held on the Gold Coast in September.
