SUPERIOR Charolais genetics were in red hot demand with the Palgrove Showcase Female Sale topping $18,500 on Saturday.
Representing Palgrove’s first female sale in five years, the showcase event at Dalveen attracted a crowd from five states and New Zealand.
In summary, the 54 lots offered – including semen and embryos – averaged $8022 to gross $433,200. In breakdown, the 19 cows and calves topped $18,500 to average $9394; 14 select show prospect heifers sold to $12,500 to average $7607; and 17 PTIC heifers topped $9000 to average $6147.
The $18,500 sale topper was the stand out six year old matron Palgrove Estella 336. The red factor cow had the August born heifer calf by Palgrove Foresight at foot, and was scanned back in calf to Palgrove Kudos. She headed to David and Judy Gray, Huon Charolais, Jindera via Albury, NSW, who run a 140 head stud herd in the Albury district. The Grays also paid the equal $9000 top for the namesake PTIC heifer Palgrove Estella in their draft of four. The Grays are currently organising a dispersal for their autumn calving females on May 12.
Second top in the 21 cow and calf line up was Palgrove Elegance by Xodus, who was PTIC and had a heifer calf at foot, both to top NZ based sire Silverstream Holster. Elegance went to Sapphire and Deborah Halliday, Waterford Charolais, Mount Macedon, Vic, who bought three lots including a cow and calf package and a show prospect heifer.
Calmview Charolais, Fernleigh, NSW, scored a four-in-one package paying $12,000 for Palgrove Estella, the first Evolution daughter offererd by the Bondfields. The three year old is on her second calf – a polled heifer by Palgrove Jericho – and scanned PTIC with twins.
South Australian buyer Joseph Sfarra, J&S Charolais, Currency Creek, paid $11,000 for Palgrove Digit by the poll Winn Mans Lanza. The PTIC Digit was AI’d to Jestream had a bull calf at foot by Linkletter.
Evolution daughter Palgrove Bronwyn sold for $10,500 to Ben Toll, Tolldale Charolais, Dubbo. Also boasting two progeny by three years of age, Bronwyn had a heifer at foot by Gallant and was AI’d to the new Canadian sire Winn Mans Skaggs.
In the show prospect heifers Scott Taylor, Linton Station, Barraba, paid $12,500 for the Evolution bred poll Palgrove Panache. CCJ’s Charolais and Rafton Cooper, Wulkaraka, paid $11,000 for the outstanding Palgrove Desire, the first Silverstream Holster heifer offered in Australia. Bauhinia Park Charolais, Emerald, bought the poll red factor Foresight heifer Palgrove Clara for $10,500.
Palgrove offered 17 very attractive PTIC heifers. The Hartwig family, Glandore, Monto, paid $9000 for the poll, red factor PTIC heifer Palgrove Festoon. By Eclipse, the heifer carried noted weight gain and carcase EBVs. Rockview Lodge Charolais, Oakey, bought another poll Evolution daughter, Palgrove Alyssa, for $8000. Alyssa was PTIC to Pleasant Dawn Chisum, Palgrove’s new low birth rate sire.
Four semen packages sold to $6500. The packages from NZ based Silverstream Holster and Canadian sire Winn Mans Skaggs head to the Binny family at Glenlea Charolais, Guyra.
A flush from the genetically superior poll red factor cow Palgrove Clara 48 made $13,000. Repeat buyer Barry Bell, Bardoo, Capel, WA, has the choice of using the sire of his choice including any Palgrove sire.
The sale was conducted by Elders and Landmark and was interfaced on AuctionsPlus. The annual Palgrove on-property Charolais and Ultra Black bull sale will be held on September 8.
