THE Mount Isa community enjoyed returning to the races after a three month break in the region.
A fashions on the field event was held although there was a smaller number of entrants – despite our photos showing many more attendees could have increased the field with great fashion if they chose to compete.
Judges Rob Katter and Daisy Hatfield determined the winners to be Leanne Ryder, who also celebrated her birthday at the races, and Casey Kempson.
The children’s fashions winner was Jayde Scott, 3, who was supported by her grandmother Mariann Burow.
The hula hoop competition was won by Sasha Brooks. Bella Bakhash, 10, won the children’s division.
Race Club committee member Mel See said it was a brilliant race day although the attendance numbers built up slowly.
She said the first race of the year did not normally have a fashions on the field. “It was just a bit of fun,” she said.
The St Patrick’s Day Races is traditionally a larger race meeting for the race club. It is held on Saturday, March 18.
