An increased yarding of 4130 head came to hand at Gracemere sale on February 24 comprising of 2007 steers, 1630 heifers, 338 cows, 109 cows and calves and 48 bulls.
Cattle were drawn north to Collinsville, south to Taroom and all local areas. Competition was strong due to a full gallery of buyers with young cattle easing slightly due to the dry conditions. Meatworks cattle held firm to dearer on last week’s rates and the market overall is still strong.
Slaughter weight steers sold to 314.2c to average 280.6c, steers 400-500kg jumped 7c to 322.2 c to average 311.2c, steers 300-400kg made 336.2c to average 314.1c, steers 200-300kg sold to 390.2c to average 336.4c. Meanwhile steers under 200kg topped 372.2 to average 333.2c.
Cows in the slaughter weight range made 290c to average 226.2c, cows 400-450kg sold to 280.2c to average 222.1c, cows 320-400kg made 242.2c to average 190.8c, while cows under 320kg sold to 134.2c to average 118.3c.
Heavy heifers topped 300c to average 268.6c, heifers 300-400kg made 302c to average 289.3c, those in the 200-300kg range hit 328c to average 288c. Those under 200kg sold to 340.2c to average 312.7c.
Cows and calves sold to $1250 to average $1625.
Bulls over 600kg made 226.2c to average 217.1c, bulls 450kg-600kg made 225.2c to average 214.9c. And those under 450kg topped 314.2c to average 258.3c.
