Mareeba combined agents penned a total of 236 head at this week’s prime and store cattle sale.
Cattle were drawn from across the usual supply area, the Atherton Tablelands, Mareeba Shire, Cooktown, Ravenshoe, The Cassowary Coast and Daintree.
The yarding was dominated by mainly store cattle ranging from very little grower steers and heifers up to some very good quality forward condition heavy steers and heifers suitable for local trade.
One major export processor, two local wholesalers and a bigger gallery of local fatteners were in attendance. Local trade cows made a few more cents than tops of the previous week. Quality store steers sold to a top rate 10c/kg above last week and heifers were firm to 20c/kg cheaper.
In the prime section butchers steers sold to 286c, butchers heifers made 237, wholesale cows topped 237c. Meanwhile, export slaughter cows sold to 230c and export slaughter bulls made 220c.
In the store section store steers made 380c and store heifers hit 289c.
Vendors are advised to book their cattle in on the Friday before the next week’s sale as Mareeba sale has buyers driving for a day to access the sale and they are asking if it’s worth the drive.
