The stage is set for buyers to take advantage of another quality yarding of females at the 36th annual National Female Sale at the Gympie Saleyards on Saturday March 11, from 9am.
In total 28 vendors will be offering a stunning selection of 152 vendor bred females at the sale, including 12 cows and calves, 23 joined females and 117 unjoined females.
Chairman of the sale committee Brian Heck said, being a multivendor sale incorporating a selection of females from 28 different studs, the Droughtmaster National Female Sale offers exceptional choice.
“It’s a showcase sale for studs to present their leading females to a discerning panel of buyers,” he said.
“While the buyer has the benefit of selecting quality females from a broad genetic base, the sale is still very affordable and caters for all budgets.”
The cattle can be inspected on the afternoon of Friday, March 10, after which an informal “meet & greet” barbeque with refreshments will be held at the saleyards starting from 6.30pm.
The saleyards is now a clearing dip, so buyers from "clean" country can clear their purchases there rather than at the tick line.
The 2017 sale sponsors are: Gympie Isuzu Ute; Landmark Stud Stock; Sullivans Livestock; Landmark, Gympie; Cooloola Stock Feeds; Beachport Liquid Minerals; Elders Stud Stock; Cavalier Livestock Equipment, Allflex , Australian Reproductive Technologies, Agricon and Vanderfields.
Sale catalogues are available from sale agents and the electronic catalogue is viewable on the sale website.
Leading studs from across the state will be offering drafts at the sale, including:
BLUEGRASS
After enjoying great success previously at the sale as a buyer, Bluegrass stud principal Allen Walker, Kilcoy will be selling for the first time at the sale this year. The Bluegrass draft being offered includes five lightly prepared, ready to work, polled unjoined heifers, with Mr Walker suggesting prospective buyers should put a few ticks in the catalogue next to Lot 37 Bluegrass Nepal who is by an exceptional, quiet bull in Birch Maurice from a really nice dam in Bluegrass Garland.
BRYVONLEA
Brian and Yvonne Heck will offer four cows and calves and six unjoined females at the 2017 sale. The majority of the draft are polled and are backed by proven pedigrees including Ripper, Riley, Jackson and Jet Set. It is a long time since Bryvonlea have offered cows and calves at the National Female Sale and they’re doing it this year to highlight the depth and the quality of their female bloodlines.
CASHMERE
John Atkinson, Cashmere Stud, Hughenden will be making his first trip to the sale. Cashmere will offer three unjoined heifers all by first season sire Hamadra Dudley. All three display beautiful femininity and have great young volume for young heifers. CEDAR VIEW
Sale veterans Stan and Lynn Tompkins, Cedar View Stud, Cedar Pocket, will be taking a draft of five unjoined heifers this year from the tremendous sires Angle Zed Famagusta and Cedar View Kris. The Tompkins’ will be joined this year by their grandson Hamish Warren, Yellowstone Stud, Grange, who will be offering his unjoined heifer Yellowstone Decota at the sale which will mark his first foray into stud cattle selling.
CRIBRUM
Andrew Percy, Cribrum Stud, Purga, will present three unjoined heifers at the sale this year from sires Yellowwood Zac and Cedardale Adan, both of which Mr Percy is still using in his operation. He said the heifers are from his most fertile dam lines. Fertility is the key point of focus for Cribrum, with Mr Percy saying he’s had no calving problems in 20 years with his quiet low maintenance, growthy, high volumes females.
GLEN RUTH
Foundation Droughtmaster stud Glen Ruth, based near Hughenden, will offer four outstanding maiden heifers at the sale. It will be the first ever offering of females by Glen Ruth at Gympie. All heifers have Breedplan figures and buyers are invited to inspect this quality draft.
HAMADRA
Hamadra Stud have nominated 10 unjoined heifers for the sale which will mark the first time they’re offering heifers at the sale. Andrew and Kerri McKenzie and family are very pleased with the draft they’ve put together. Hamadra’s aim is to breed easy care, early maturing cattle with clean underlines, good udders and plenty of beef, muscle and bone on a moderately framed size animal.
LORAYNE
Lorayne Stud are presenting two joined and four unjoined this year, which are the first female progeny of the studs new sire from the highly acclaimed Wolfang Stud. Each of their dams have sought after genetics with the joined heifers having been depastured with Lorayne Carson. The unjoined heifers are out of the studs own bred cows and display excellent Droughtmaster traits. Lots 14 and 107 are the only female progeny from the Ranelagh Helen line that have ever been offered for sale, all other females from her line have been retained in the herd.
MINLACOWIE
The Spann Family of Minlacowie and Wingfield studs concentrate on keeping desirable breed traits in the herd including a good tropical coat, moderate length ears, plenty of scale and good carcase attributes in the males, and very good udders, milking ability and very importantly, femininity in the females. The draft of 10 unjoined very feminine females they’re offering this year is no exception.
