After a three year hiatus the former Elders Longreach All Breeds Sale will return on Friday, March 3 from 9am as the Elders Outback Invitational Bull Sale to be held at the Longreach Saleyards.
Elders Rural sale agent Michael Smith said before the prolonged dry conditions hit the region the sale was consistently cataloguing close to 300 bulls each year.
“It’s been three years now since the sale was last held, and with the improved seasons and a few females starting to make their way back into the country we think it's a good time to relaunch the sale,” Mr Smith said.
The multibreed sale will see 12 vendors offering 105 lots across six breeds.
The sale will start with a quality draft of 14 Shorthorn bulls being offered by The Job family, Royalla Shorthorns, and a selection of 16 Angus from Paul Weir, Mylington Angus, Croydon will follow.
A well chosen draft of seven Charbray bulls will follow next from Stephen and Alison Kajewski, Bettafield Charbray Stud and five powerful Braford will be offered by the McNamara family, Strathgyle Braford Stud.
A total of 35 Santa Gertrudis will go under the hammer from breeders Sir William Allen and family, Forest Park Santa Gertrudis Stud, Bevan and Maree Pearce, Bendalla Santa Gertrudis Stud and Cam and Fiona Russell, Swan Hill Cattle Company.
The Droughtmaster breed will be well represented with 28 bulls being offered by Peter and Deleece Carrington, Rondel Droughtmaster Stud, Luke and Jayna Carrington, Carrington Cattle Company, Zach and Lakisha Muntelwit, Anrod, Dean and Julie Allen, Western Red & Fairhaven Droughtmaster Studs and Garry and Jillian Little, Riverland Droughtmaster Stud.
“Quality Poll genetics run through every breed booked for the sale, with 66 Poll bulls catalogued or close to two thirds of the sale draft.
“I’m very happy with what I’ve seen of the catalogued bulls so far.”
Mr Smith said the the decision was made to go back to the sales roots this year with a high percentage of the bulls in the sale being bred out in the region.
“It’s the concept the sale was originally started on; it gives our clients in the region somewhere close to home to market their cattle from. It will also give local prospective buyers the confidence that they can purchase bulls without having to worry about acclimitisation issues.”
He said the sale vendors who aren’t from the region, offered bulls at the previous sales before the drought, and that they all have a solid reputation for producing cattle that can thrive in the regions climatic conditions.
Inspections will be held on Thursday, March 2 or on the morning of the sale.
