Thunderstorms and showers are expected to continue in north west Queensland following extreme weather last night.
An inland trough hit the outback town of Cloncurry around 8.30pm and recorded up to 70 kilometre winds causing damage to local properties. Thunder and extreme lightening were also reported.
The Bureau of Meteorology only recorded 7.6 millimetres of rain at the airport with majority of the storm hitting the centre of town. Reports from locals suggest between 15 to 25 millimetres fell in town.
The thunderstorm subsided to light showers by 9.30pm.
Cloncurry’s prediction for the rest of the week shows a chance of thunderstorms and possible heavy falls. Reaching a top of 39 degrees with winds expected to reach 20 to 30 kilometres.
