ON Wednesday afternoon the Lakes Creek Hotel will be abuzz with landholders, meatworkers, business owners and locals coming together to rally against the proposed compulsory land acquisitions in Marlborough.
State Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga is leading the charge, and she said she organised the rally, which coincides with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s visit to the region.
“We know that landholders are very concerned and anxious about the proposal, but we’re also very concerned about the 50,000 head of cattle that are going to be removed from the local supply chain,” Ms Lauga said.
“That in turn will have impacts on local jobs, with that 50,000 head of cattle removed from the local supply chain local meatworks have told me that they foresee that being equivalent to about three months of work, which is very concerning for not only the landholders but the business owners in the region and the members of Keppel holding those jobs.”
Ms Lauga said multiple speakers will be involved in the rally, who will discuss the potential impact the acquisitions could have on jobs in the region.
