Despite the heatwave conditions, Monto Cattle and Country yarded 650 head to kick off the sales for 2017.
Prime cattle were in shorter supply but sold to strong competition from processors. Younger store cattle sold strongly. Cattle were drawn from Biloela, Thangool, Jambin, Boyne Valley and Monto districts.
Heavy finished bulls sold from 263c to 270c/kg while plainer conditioned bulls sold from 245c to 258c/kg. Bill and Kath Dow, Kimbelin, sold 635kg Santa bullocks for 307c/kg or $1950. Peter and Kaye Wilson’s Brangus bullocks at 566kg returned $1650 or 291c/kg. KJ and TM Gilvear penned Brahman trade heifers 460kg which realised $1345 or 291c/kg.
WR and AJ Goody sold quality Charbray cows 527kg for 260c/kg or $1372. WR & BM Avis sold Droughtmaster cows 611kg for 265c/kg or $1622. Monal Grazing’s Charbray cows 467kg sold to 245c/kg or $1145. Lighter conditioned store cows generally sold from $2 to 217c/kg.
Neville and Jenny Keitley sold a run of No.6 Droughtmaster cross steers sold from 363c to 368c/kg to average 364.6c/kg or $987. P&S Adcock sold 306kg Charbray steers for $1127 or 368c/kg. Allambee Grazing sold a run of Droughtmaster, Brahman Cross weaner steers from 340 to 377c/kg topping at $900. Larsen Farms sold 228kg Charbray weaner steers for 387c/kg or $882.
R and A Grazing sold Droughtmaster No.5 heifers 408kg for 310c/kg or $1260 while their lighter weaner heifers 317kg returned $993. Paul Rideout sold quality Braford heifers 303kg for $938 or 310c/kg. JA and SN Clarke penned Droughtmaster weaner heifers which realised $713 or 318c/kg. Allambie Grazing’s run of Droughtmaster cross weaner heifers sold from 314 to 327c/kg topping at $742. Larsen Farms Charbray weaner heifers sold to 333c/kg or $752.
