A man and a pregnant woman have survived a 48-hour flooding ordeal in the Gulf, authorities say.
The pair, believed to be tourists suffering from dehydration were transported in stable conditions to Normanton Hospital yesterday after reports their vehicle had been bogged for two days on the Burke Development Road around 20km from Stokes.
A 27-year-old man walked for help to a cattle station to alert emergency services while his 26-year-old pregnant girlfriend stayed in the car.
QAS north west acting superintendent Lara Jedyn said both patient are now well and receiving treatment for dehydration in the Normanton hospital.
“Their condition was surprisingly good when we found them, they must have had water in the car and they were refreshing that water,” Ms Jedyn said.
“They are very lucky, things would have become very tricky had they been out for more than 72 hours.”
Ms Jedyn urged people to download the 000 app on the phone which will enable authorities to locate stranded travellers, they should also take lots of water and advise people where they are intending to travel.
The Burke Development Road remains closed between Normanton and Four Ways.
Emergency services reminded people “if it is flooded, forget it.”
