Leading veterinary podiatrist, Dr Luke Wells-Smith, will host a clinic in Malanda this weekend with farriers and veterinarians from across Far North Queensland.
Tableland Veterinary Service’s (TVS) North Queensland Equine Clinic will play host to Dr Wells-Smith, who owns Motion-Equine Podiatry.
Mr Wells-Smith is regarded as one of the best in the country.
TVS veterinarian Mick Ruppin said the clinic’s goals were three-fold.
He said it would allow selected cases to be treated and reviewed by Dr Wells-Smith, provide an opportunity for professional development for attending vets and strengthen working relationships between vets and farriers.
Cases will involves consultation, lameness review, joint/nerve blocks and radiographs.
Based in the Upper Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Dr Well-Smith graduated as a veterinarian from James Cook University in Townsville in 2010 and has worked in equine practice in Ballarat, Townsville and Gawler.
He has also spent time in Australia and the United States working with and visiting veterinarians and farriers in podiatry and lameness practice.
